The history of a proven design
Post and beam - enduring for hundreds of years
From antiquity to the nineteenth century, post and beam was the dominant architectural form north of the Alps. As well as the easy availability of wood as a building material, its many practical benefits assured a splendid future for post and beam construction. Countless historic buildings that captivate us today in countryside and town have survived for hundreds of years and now create the special feel of whole regions.
Brave new beginning
Only in the second half of the twentieth century has this almost forgotten approach to house building become so enormously successful. This makes the decision in 1969 by businessman Franz Huf to bring new life to timber-frame construction all the more notable. In his readiness to learn from the old master builders and combine this with a new architectural vision, lies the nucleus of the unique success of the HUF HAUS brand.
New challenges
The art of post and beam construction has reached its latest summit with the green[r]evolution HUF Houses. However development will not stop here. After all, timber-frame construction has always adapted to the times and repeatedly overcome new challenges. In our era, we face the urgent demand for energy efficiency to fulfil our responsibility to protect the environment and climate.
