Passion in  Timber since 1912

The HUF HAUS company's historical roots go back to 1912 when Johann Huf founded his carpenter's shop in Hartenfels the company's headquarters in the Westerwald. Johann Huf was the grandfather of the current company owner Georg Huf.

In 1950, following several stages in the development of the sawmill and the turmoil of two world wars, Franz Huf followed in the footsteps of his father. By this time the sawmill had made its name nationally as a quality company. Behind the milestones below lies a fascinating and moving company history captured by Franz Huf in his book "Von Generationen - Mein Leben für das Unternehmen".

1949-1957
Expansion to  a multi-regional carpentry business

1957-1958
Assembly of the pavilions for Germany and Saudi Arabia at the Brussels World Exhibition

1958
The company expanded to add pre-manufactured timber structures and turn- key buildings to the portfolio

1960-1964
Production of prefabricated houses for the Kaufhof AG

1961
Founding member of the BDF – the Association of German Pre-manufactured Housebuilders

1964
Development of the HUF 'IDEAL House' and establishment of the company's own sales organisation
1972
Development of the HUF FACHWERKHAUS 2000 in collaboration with the architect Manfred Adams

1973
Founding of IDEAL Betonelementebau (production of precast concrete panels for HUF HAUS basements)

1977
“House of the Year” Award for the HUF FACHWERKHAUS 2000, from the state government of Rhineland-Palatinate

1978
Foundation of a sales office in Switzerland, first international steps

1983
“Timber Award Rhineland-Palatinate”

1985
Decision to concentrate production exclusively on post-and-beam houses

1992
Design of the characteristic HUF FACHWERKHAUS 2000 ART 8 with two-pitched roofs

Handover from Franz Huf to sons Georg Huf and Thomas Huf

1997
First HUF house built in Great Britain

2000
Founded StilART, the HUF HAUS bespoke furniture company

2001
Awarded the German “Excellence in Solar Energy” award 'Deutscher Solarpreis'

2004
Founded BodenART,  a HUF HAUS company for exclusive floor coverings

2005
Georg Huf is president of the Europäischen Fertighausverbandes (EFV), the European Association of Pre-manufactured House Builders

2007
Founded the HUF companies ReiseART (travel), MalerART (rendering and painting) and GartenART (gardens and landscape architecture)

2008
Entered the Chinese market and assembly of the first HUF House in Qingdao

2009
Launched the green[r]evolution HUF house Generation and founded redblue energy (technical building systems)

2010
HUF HAUS becomes member of DGNB (German Association for Sustainable Building)

2011
HUF HAUS present the new HUF house generation green[r]evolution as a Plus-Energie-Haus

HUF HAUS is  awarded with the n-tv Mittelstandspreis “Hidden Champion” in the category sustainability

Much too early do we mourn the loss of our managing director Thomas Huf († 20.09.2011)
